LINK (Leading Internships for New Knowledge) is a program offered at Animas High School to help students explore the career fields they're interested in, getting hands on experience. Normally, it is supposed to be an experience for juniors where they complete 90-120 hours of internship work within a three week period, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, that shifted a bit for the 2021 class. From our spring semester of our junior year throughout our senior year, we were able to complete our internship requirements.
Intership?
I interned at Steve Gates architect firm in downtown Durango, but unfortunately because of Covid-19 most of it was via emailing and self teaching through remote methods. They started me off by learning how to use sketch up via watching videos and downloading it. By doing this not only did I learn how to use a new program that I can utilize in college, but also I can say I have more of an awareness on what it takes to be an architect.
My Project
For my project I decided to design a tiny home. In my project although I did initially want to use Sketch Up I ended up designing it by hand. In my project I added dimensions, top views, and roof views. My initial thoughts on designing this tiny home was to combine efficiency with space and simple design.

Reflection
Initially going into this internship I envisioned I would be doing more things in person and shadow the architects at the firm. Although I was not able to do this due to covid I did learn so much about myself throughout my remote internship. For starters I learned that I get very inspired and motivated brainstorming ideas for architectural designs. I learned this when I began starting my tiny home project. I learned this by putting a lot of time and effort into figuring out what was the most realistic while maintaining creative aspects that I had wanted from the start. This was a very great experience and this internship has assured me that I really do love architecture and what it entails and cannot wait to study this in my future academic career.
